November Featured Artists

About the show:  The featured show for the month of November is entitled “Turn, Re-turn”.  Like the journey of a circle or the passing of a page--we turn, we return, and we re-turn.

About the artists:

Anna Magruder- For this show, Anna was inspired by the idea of turning the  pages of a book and the unfolding of characters on the page. Anna paints people, animals, and whatever lies between. Hovering between realism and surrealism, she enjoys re-imagining the lives and stories of characters on canvas, exploring the emotional colors of faces, and re-creating images of vintage America. The animals she includes in her paintings are generally species that are endangered—in an attempt to bring awareness to the importance of protecting them and the habitats they depend on for survival. She is a member/owner at Sidestreet Arts, where more of her work can be found, in addition to her online presence on Instagram: @anna.magruder_art.design  and on her website: annamagruder.com

Erica Gibson- Erica creates three-dimensional sculptures from found objects and hand-sculpted clay. Inspired by dreams, human emotion, and worlds unknown, her pieces straddle the space between the personal and make-believe, creating enchanting and enigmatic sculptures. More of her work can be seen on Instagram: @ericagibsonart  or on her website: www.ericagibsonart.com

Indio Metal Arts- Shelly Durica-Laiche designs and builds both decorative and functional steel objects such as free-standing sculpture, furniture, architectural elements, and trellises. Salvaged steel is her preferred material for creating sculptures. She collects it from steelyards around town, off the side of the road, through her travels, or by donation. Scrap metal has an embedded history and character that folds into each design, and Shelly gains inspiration from the unique shapes of these found treasures. She is driven by the design challenge of transforming these recognizable objects into an assemblage with a new voice. Discover more of her work on her website: www.indiometalarts.com or on Instagram: @indio.metal.art

Melody Bush- Melody’s life revolves around books and has for a very long time. She works in an elementary school library, is an avid reader, and loves to create art using repurposed books. Her self-taught book art adventure began in the summer of 2018, when she began experimenting with carving and book folding. She loves the concept of giving an object new meaning by turning it into something unexpected and joyful. She takes pride in knowing that her work gives a new life and purpose to books that would likely otherwise end up in a landfill. She is a member of Wy’East Artisans Guild, Trillium Gallery and Three Rivers Artists Guild. She is also a member/owner at Sidestreet Arts.
