I am a self taught artist who has lived in Portland for the last 20 years.
I enjoy working with many mediums. The paintings that I do are first worked out in black and white with drawing pencils, and are then gone over with gouache. I like the look that this gives, like that of an old Kodachrome or hand tinted picture. I am inspired by vintage ephemera and textiles, and pull elements of these things together in my mind before I start to work, kind of like a mental collage. Once it is sorted in my head, I then commit this to paper. I use these same vintage textiles and small things in the dolls and 3 dimensional items that I make. All of my dolls are sewn by hand. All of my vintage materials are locally sourced as well, and a good portion of my work is made of recycled material. |
