This May, Sidestreet Arts is delighted to share its funkalicious, freak-tastic and far-out show: Funky Town. We have brought together three fantastic local artists: Ceramicists Erika Rier and Sarah Fine, and painter Joel Fleminger. Each artist was given the name of the show: Funky Town, and asked to create for it. Because all the artists bring their own brand of weirdness, we knew they would hit the mark. In her ceramic sculptures, wall hanging plates and mugs, Erika Rier portrays the inner lives of women. She employs her own unique version of surrealism to convey these women’s fascinating thoughts and life scenarios. Sarah Fine, previously a graphic designer and illustrator, has switched her creative gears into ceramics. She makes wonderfully amusing, brightly colored, and engaging creations. You will find cat ladies, old jalopies, and cats lurking in gardens--all exquisitely rendered. Painter Joel Fleminger paints abstract acrylic paintings with an emphasis on mark-making. His dream-like paintings make one think of cloudscapes and other dimensions. Come and visit this amazing show. You will enjoy the arty-weirdness of it.
